MEANS OF COMMUNICATION

As a writer, as a partner in a relationship, as a parent, grandparent….and in so many other relationships communicating effectively and accurately is the means not only for understanding and being understood, it also prevents any harm to those you care about.

We communicate in a variety of ways effecting how others may or may not understand our message. Think of communication as a pie, made up of these three pieces. Each making up a percentage of the whole.
(These percentages may vary according to whatever source you choose to use, but the proportion is what to notice.)

1. The words we say (7%)
2. The tone we use (38%)
3. Our body language (55%)

If these are all in sync, the message has been conveyed, and will be received accurately.

Conclusion: There is more to communication than the words alone. Think about that, and the elements involved, when someone is speaking to you, or you are communicating with others.
