I have begun my search for methods for getting my newest, almost completed, manuscript for my book, the 2nd Edition of Peace: The Other Side of Anger, ready for publication.
(This one aspect on the subject of writing I will be posting on this site)
.
As you may have previously seen, I posted, permission letters to adults who work or live with teens 13-17 to allow their adolescents to take the surveys on the pandemic, gun violence and social media. I also posted a letter to 18 &19year-olds containing a QR Code & link to access these questionnaires. Once completed (200-300) and compiled, I will be ready to submit my manuscript. I mention this factor because my research began prior to completion of my manuscript, which I estimate won’t be ready for submission until January, 2025. With this idea in mind, I began my research.
1.Something I didn’t expect, but thanks to a colleague of mine, he recommended a publishing house which follows the path of a traditional publisher. I submitted my unfinished manuscript about two months ago to find out if this publishing house was willing to work with me. According to a source on google, this evaluation process could take six months-
Oh Well, Patience is a Virtue!
2. My next step, was to get in touch with the publisher, which I used to self publish my story, “After Here.” I did. They would do everything involved in the process, but if I had them edit the MS (over 104,000 words) it would cost me a lot.
My contact suggested I try to use editors from Fiverr/or Reedsy( two organizations who have people to help authors with all aspects of preparing manuscripts for publication)since their fees would be less than this publishers and probably other self publishing companies.
I contacted some of these independent editors and received quotes from them. I told them, I wouldn’t be using their service until I received the results of the surveys in January, 2025. They were all okay with this.
*If you choose to use independent contractors, it may be less money for you to spend on preparing your
manuscript for publication.
3-I contacted several other publishers and have received quotes for the services I need from them. They also were informed of my anticipated submission date as well. They often will “cold contact” you, based on their observation of your other work or inquiries you might have made on a social media platform.
I hope this post gives you some idea of how to go about having your manuscript readied for publication.
Feel free to let me know if you used any of these methods and how they were helpful or any results you’ve had with other means of publishing your work!
GOOD LUCK AUTHORS!!!
