(from the Second Edition of Peace: The Other Side of Anger)
When interacting with adolescents, here are a few ideas from “Quick Tips for Keeping the Peace with Teens” to help maintain and possibly improve your relationship with them;
- Ask and You Shall Accomplish a Task, Demand and Things Get Out of Hand
Frame what you want as a request rather than a demand or threat. Taking this approach permits the possibility of receiving a positive response.
- A Compliment Works Like Relationship Cement
Most teens are used to being told what they do wrong. Being able to say something positive
takes their view of you and your relationship to a different level. They actually say or think, “Someone actually notices when I do something right.”
